$3M+ Raised for Neurava Wearable Epilepsy Device

US-based medtech, Neurava has announced almost $AUD3.5 million ($US2.26 million) has been raised via its oversubscribed seed funding round.

Neurava’s wearable device provides patients with monitoring and alerts for seizures, cardiorespiratory issues and the impending risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).

In Australia alone, it is estimated that people with epilepsy have a risk of up to 1.2 in 1,000 of SUDEP per year – equating to around 171 SUDEP-related deaths annually.

“This funding will allow us to complete a pivotal usability study at leading clinical institutions in adults and pediatric patients with epilepsy,” said Neurava Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Vivek Ganesh in a statement.

In advance of its Series A funding round, Dr Ganesh also confirmed the company would be establishing its manufacturing partners as well as submitting for clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Neurava is currently enrolling participants in a pivotal full system usability study in both adults and children.
