As medical device product development specialists, Tiller Design provides insights to Bionics Challenge 2022 entrants and winning teams.

Tiller Design is a multi-award winning product development consultancy. Working closely with major research institutions, their team specialises in complex translational research projects, helping teams accelerate their research and commercialisation outcomes.

For over 25 years, Tiller Design has been working with research groups including the University of Queensland, The University of Sydney, Flinders University, CSIRO and Data61 to help define and execute their product development strategy within an R&D/translational research context.

Together with the immediate demands of the project such as development of physical test jigs and proof of concept devices, Tiller Design researches the intended use case, clinical environment and critically, the user group.

The team’s unique experience and expertise cultivates a collaborative partnership between the research and design teams, ensuring a smooth transition to formal product design activities and accelerating the holistic development.

Tiller Design operates across highly regulated industries most often in the development of novel medical technologies but also areas such as defence, agtech, energy storage and ruggedised equipment.

The team encompasses broad ranging skills across industrial design, mechanical engineering, electronics hardware, human factors, prototyping, DFM, regulatory and quality. Tiller Design runs an accredited Quality Management System, audited to ISO 13485 for Medical Devices.

Tiller Design actively works with research groups on joint funding opportunities including Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grants, the BioMedTech Horizons Program, the Medical Research Future Fund and other capital raising opportunities.
