$50M Boost for Next-Gen Heart Tech

In fantastic news for cardiovascular patients across the globe, $50 million has been awarded to help develop and commercialise the world’s first Total Artificial Heart.

The cash boost came via the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund, representing the third-largest single grant in almost a decade of the Fund’s existence.

The pioneering device was conceptualised by Australian biomedical engineer and BiVACOR founder, Dr Daniel Timms.

The funded project team sees BiVACOR join forces with five universities and three clinical partners to develop three next-generation cardiac technologies set to transform treatment for patients with heart failure.

“Bionics Gamechangers Australia is delighted to see the MRFF helping to accelerate this Australian-born organ innovation to market,” said Bionics Gamechangers Australia Chief Executive Officer, Dr Robyn Stokes.

“Together, artificial, biorobotic and tissue-engineered organs will ultimately transform the lives of individuals living with organ failure.”
