Sydney Research Points to Customised Cochlear Implants

University of Sydney School of Biomedical Engineering researcher, Dr Greg Watkins has analysed the accuracy of predictions for cochlear implant outcomes with a view to improving their performance in areas with lots of background noise. Dr Watkins himself hears with the assistance of two cochlear implants.

Published in Ear and Hearing, his findings suggest a new method for predicting speech perception for individual recipients and a methodology that could lead to implants that are personalised to an individual’s listening capability.
