A wearable device which stimulates the transcutaneous electrical nerve has shown promising results for treating long-term pain.

Across 550 patients, a study found 92 percent reported improvement in various pain issues over 18 months following use of the NXTSTIM EcoAI device.

The technology – which can be controlled on a smartphone via Bluetooth and can also be used as a remote patient monitoring tool – blocks pain signals from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system.

“This is the first large real-world demonstration of using the EcoAI AIML technology combined with remote patient monitoring to show durable outcomes,” said Dr Prachi Patel in a story with Medical Device Network.

“With no adverse events reported and significant pain relief in over 66% of patients out to 18 months, this is a landmark approach to pain care using a front-end electroceutical solution.”
