Brisbane-based medtech start-up, Convergence Medical has its sights set on completing the pre-clinical phase of developing its arthroscopic surgical robot as early as November next year.
The V01 Arthroscopic Surgical Robot, a world-first innovation, is designed to provide orthopaedic surgeons with greater perception, dexterity and precision when performing arthroscopy (joint surgery).
In a story with Business News Australia, Convergence Medical founder Dr Chis Jeffrey said the move would then lead to the company’s 510k submission with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), having already secured a place in the FDA Breakthrough Devices Program.
“Breakthrough designation is only given to products and projects that are thought to be truly and significantly transformational,” said Dr Jeffery.
“We have demonstrated initial testing that has shown our robot can execute simulated arthroscopic procedures four times quicker with a 30-times increase in precision than manual operations.
“We couldn’t be better on paper and now we are walking the path to what we believe will be a pretty exciting outcome.”
