Same passion, bigger goals: after five years as Bionics Queensland, we are driving even greater impact for innovators under our new national name, Bionics Gamechangers Australia.
Joining us at this month’s launch were partners across industry, government, academia and the community, all committed to fast-tracking the innovation and global export of bionic devices and treatments.
It’s a move that will see Australia better placed to capitalise on artificial intelligence (AI), ongoing breakthroughs in medtech, robotics and the coming revolution in quantum computing, said Bionics Gamechangers Australia Chair, Dr Dimity Dornan AO.
“Bionics, robotics and AI have become powerful partners, transforming health and medicine, reimagining disability, fine-tuning our cognition and capabilities – and with each new innovation, further extending the human lifespan,” said Dr Dornan.
“With a new era in quantum computing upon us and significant advances in medicine, neuroscience, bioelectronics, biofabrication and additive manufacturing, Australia’s output and potential export of bionic devices and treatments can and should be pushed to a higher level.”
With this exciting network of partners, Bionics Gamechangers Australia has a wide canvas of bionic innovations in its sights to accelerate and support.
Such vision builds upon an existing stable of early-stage ventures and university R&D leaders who have already drawn more than $1 million in grants, mentoring and publicity from the Bionics Challenge, delivered annually by Bionics Gamechangers Australia in partnership with the Motor Accident Insurance Commission Queensland.
This month’s launch featured a fascinating array of exhibits from local innovators and start-ups who have benefited from the work of Bionics Queensland, and now stand to reach an even larger audience with the support of Bionics Gamechangers Australia.
Also in attendance was The Hon Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement (pictured above).
“Keeping an eye on the needs of clinicians and policymakers, defining front-end market projections and the competitive environment, managing intellectual property, design and development, tracking regulatory changes – this can be all very challenging for R&D leaders and early-stage ventures,” said Bionics Gamechangers Australia CEO, Dr Robyn Stokes.
“All are targeting a global market, and must understand regulatory changes, who the ‘customer’ is and how they as innovators will be reimbursed for their device or treatment in different parents of the world.
“This is where Bionics Gamechangers Australia makes a real difference, by staying abreast of all those must-have insights, leading robust partnerships with universities, hospitals, research institutes and medtech providers across the nation, and sharing that knowledge.”
