US-based medtech, Alt-Bionics has been issued with a non-provisional patent for its next-gen, artificial intelligence-enhanced modular prosthetic hand.

“This milestone marks a long awaited, and significant achievement in our mission to create the world’s most affordable, yet highly advanced prosthetic hand for amputees, and now humanoid robots,” said Alt-Bionics Chief Executive Officer and founder, Ryan Saavedra.

Launched in 2019, Alt-Bionics is currently focused on developing prosthetic bionic hands for people with below-elbow amputation or congenital disorders, however also has its sights set on other areas of prosthetics in the future.

The company said its technology’s capability for quick repairs when required – from potentially weeks down to just one minute thanks to its modular system – was an “invaluable” advancement for both patients and the healthcare sector.

“This feature not only allows everyone to maximize productivity, but also significantly save money in the long run,” said Mr Saavedra.

“We believe this utility will change the game in both prosthetics and the robotics industry… This patent is the first of many to come as we continue building the future!”
