Promising Early Results for Cardiac Sensor Device Trial

Vancouver-based Canary Medical is looking beyond its scope of orthopaedic implants, having this month announced the first-in-human clinical trial of its Cardiac Auscultation monitoring sensor device is now complete.
Conducted in Paraguay with two patients, the company said the trial represented the first cardiac auscultation sensor successfully implanted in humans.
The device is designed to help improve patient and clinician management of congestive heart failure symptoms alongside current medications, by providing regular objective cardiac parameter measurements.
Canary’s limited feasibility trial explored the sensitivity, specificity and final design specifications of the device’s microphone system, and found mitral regurgitation sound signals were detected by the sensor, compared with normal acoustic heart signals.
“While these are early results, we believe that the future is bright for patients who will benefit from Canary’s expanded sensor portfolio in the years to come,” said Canary Medical Chief Executive Officer, Dr Bill Hunter.
