Quick Watch: “Heart Atlas” in Extraordinary Detail

Normal cardiac function relies on the intricate structures that comprise the human heart, yet knowledge as to how its cells are arranged remain sparse.

Now, a team of researchers have combined ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequencing together with the latest imaging technology to create a world-first “Heart Atlas”.

It is hoped that this incredible level of detail will provide fresh insights to support advances in treatments for congenital defects.

In Australia alone, congenital heart disease affects about 1 in 100 babies and is the most common birth defect.
