Top Prize for Novel Spinal Cord Injury Treatment

An innovative treatment for spinal cord injury has taken out the top prize at the global 2023 Create the Future Design Contest.

US-based Neuropair won the Grand Prize at the live competition round in New York last month, for their novel approach to spinal cord repair that its developers are touting as a world-first.

Because shape and condition of spinal cord injuries vary so much, one-size-fits-all approaches are typically unsuccessful.

Instead, Neuropair’s technology utilises injectable, flexible magnetic nanoparticles, which help to protect and regrow damaged neurons by completely filling irregular shapes within the injury site.

It is also compatible with other medical treatments including MRI, epidural stimulation and stem cells.

The annual Create the Future Design saw over 500 entries from innovators across 60 countries.
