Promising Portable Implantable Microdialysis Device for Hormone Monitoring

A portable implantable microdialysis device has been developed to help diagnose and monitor hormone-related conditions.

Dynamic Therapeutics’ U-RHYTHM system works by collecting frequent biochemical samples across a 24-hour period; captured data can then be analysed to identify potential disruptions to hormone levels that could impact a person’s health.

The company said the low-cost device had the potential to advance diagnosis and treatment of a range of health conditions, offering a solution to the current challenges of monitoring hormone levels which can fluctuate significantly both across the day and between individuals.

The University of Bristol spinout was a recent recipient of the Blavatnik Prize for Innovation funded by UK-based venture capital firm, QantX which included up to £50,000 (approximately $AUD95,000) in non-dilutive funding.

“Our trials are already showing significant interest among customers for U-RHYTHM and we are looking to rapidly expand our work with research institutions as we look to commercialise the technology in the next year,” said Dynamic Therapeutrics’ co-founder, Professor Stafford Lightman in a statement.
